Catamounts for Recovery offers a safe space for recovering students

Western Carolina University is doing its part to help those affected by this crisis. In addition to receiving counseling help at Counseling and Psychological Services, students can receive support from Catamounts for Recovery. A student-run organization, Catamounts for Recovery is a sober community of individuals supporting recovery from substance use and assistance with mental health issues.

Mountain anthology edited by English instructor tackles contemporary Appalachian issues

Jessica Cory will present “Mountains Piled Upon Mountains: Appalachian Nature Writing in the Anthropocene” during a reading Thursday, Sept. 5, at Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville.

Second edition of García-Castañón’s novel published in Spain

The second (and first bilingual) edition of a novel by Santiago García-Castañón, “Vida y fabulosas aventuras de Pedro Menéndez de Avilés (The Life and Fabulous Adventures of Pedro Menénedez de Avilés),”was published in Spain in July.

Kossick lectures at international conference

Mark A. Kossick, WCU professor of nursing, director of graduate programs in nursing and interim director of the post-master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at the university’s Biltmore Park instructional site, presented six lectures at an international conference held in Falmouth, Massachusetts, on July 15-16 and 18-19.
